Going Home
Several discharge criteria must be met before you go home. They include, but are not limited to:
- The ability to drink fluids and keep them down
- The ability to urinate
- Stable vital signs
- Nausea under control
- Pain under control
Please remember to make arrangements in advance for someone to drive you home. You will receive instructions on your home care before you leave the hospital. Discharge prescriptions are not filled at the hospital.
After arriving home, plan on resting the remainder of the day. Someone should remain at home with you for at least the first 24 hours, since you will still be sedated and recovering from anesthesia.
If any questions arise after you have gone home, please contact your physician.
In addition, please contact your physician and the hospital’s Infection Control Department at 909.920.4823 if you develop fever, redness, or drainage from your wound within 30 days after surgery.
