Don't be a Bystander
Save a Life With Hands-Only CPR

Did you know that most cardiac arrests outside the hospital setting happen at home?  Would you know what to do in case of an emergency?  According to the American Heart Association, performing Hands-Only CPR  when someone is experiencing a heart attack can double or even triple that person’s chance of survival.  Hands-Only CPR is just like regular CPR, without respiration breaths or mouth-to-mouth contact.  Hands-Only CPR does not require formal training or certification, anyone can save a life.

Hands-Only CPR has two simple steps.  If you see a teen or adult suddenly collapse:

Step 1: Call 9-1-1 first so emergency personnel can be dispatched to the scene.

Step 2: Push hard and fast in  the center of the chest, using the beat of the popular disco song “Stayin’ Alive” for timing.  The song is 100 beats per minute, the minimum rate you should push on the chest during hands-only CPR.  Continue until emergency personnel arrive.

If you’re called upon to perform Hands-Only CPR, don’t be a bystander. Be ready to save a life.
