San Antonio Regional Hospital is Awarded
Excellence in Spiritual Care Award
from the HealthCare Chaplaincy Network™

UPLAND, CA – January 15, 2025 – San Antonio Regional Hospital has been presented with an Excellence in Spiritual Care Award by the HealthCare Chaplaincy Network™ (HCCN).  The award signifies that San Antonio Regional Hospital has met HCCN’s national standards of excellence in spiritual care and represents the hospital’s commitment to identifying and addressing the spiritual and religious needs of patients and their families through best practices in spiritual care.

San Antonio Regional Hospital has a robust Spiritual Care Department with the mission of providing comfort and support to those facing illness and grief by offering chaplain services and support to patients, families, and San Antonio Care Team members.  In addition to a full-time Board-Certified Staff Chaplain, San Antonio Regional Hospital is lucky to have 12 amazing Spiritual Care Volunteers who receive weekly ongoing education and training.  The hospital also has strong relationships with local churches from several denominations who have agreed to come to the hospital to respond to the needs of patients from their spiritual community.

“San Antonio Regional Hospital has been awarded the Excellence in Spiritual Care Award from the HealthCare Chaplaincy Network™, signifying that it has met our national standards of excellence in spiritual care...”

Rev. Eric J. Hall, DTh, APBCC, President and CEO of HealthCare Chaplaincy Network™
In addition to providing emotional and spiritual support, San Antonio’s Spiritual Care Department offers spiritual resources and consults on ethnical issues, end of life decisions, and serve as liaisons between the medical team, families, and faith communities. Providing quality spiritual care has been demonstrated to improve patient outcomes, shorten hospital stays, increase patient and employee satisfaction, reduce anxiety, and improve the overall experience during a hospital admission.

“It has been an honor to take an active role in building the Spiritual Care Department at San Antonio Regional Hospital. From a program that relied mainly on a handful of volunteers, to one that utilizes evidence-based practices, provides in-depth training to Spiritual Care Volunteers, employs only board-certified Chaplains, and now has received the prestigious Excellence in Spiritual Care Award. We are truly blessed.”

Rev. Alexander J. Aaron, Rev. M.Div, BCC, Staff Chaplain, San Antonio Regional Hospital
