Infant Milestones


New parents often wonder about the growth and development of their newborn. Here are some milestones that babies experience and the approximate age that you may observe these developments:

3 TO 14 DAYS

  • Responds to sound
  • Fixates on human face and follows with eyes
  • Lifts head momentarily

6 MONTHS

  • Mimics vocal sounds
  • Rolls over
  • Sits with support
  • Stands when placed and bears weight
  • Grasps and mouths objects
  • First tooth can erupt

12 MONTHS

  • Pulls to stand
  • Imitates sounds
  • Looks for dropped or hidden objects
  • Drinks from cup

15 MONTHS

  • Walks well
  • Climbs stairs
  • Understands simple commands
  • Listens to stories

18 MONTHS

  • Walks backwards
  • Throws ball
  • Imitates words
  • Imitates adults
  • Kicks ball
  • Uses two-word phrases
  • Follows two-step commands
  • Uses spoon & cup at 2 Years

Keep in mind that just as every adult is unique, every baby will reach developmental milestones at their own pace. Please be sure to discuss your baby's unique characteristics with your healthcare provider or our Healthy Beginnings Family Care Center staff.
