Healthy Beginnings Maternity Services Overview

The anticipation of a new baby brings a world of excitement – and dozens of decisions, including where to have your baby. We're here for you during your pregnancy, at your baby's birth and beyond, with services designed to promote a healthy pregnancy, facilitate a safe delivery and provide support after you leave the hospital.

San Antonio is a designated Baby Friendly Hospital. Baby-Friendly hospitals emphasize education on feeding choices, helping mothers make the best choice for themselves and their babies and teaching birthing parents the skills necessary to help them feel successful in their choices.

Our specially trained nurses and birthing suites offer all the comforts of home and the latest technology, including the peace of mind of knowing that our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is close at hand should your newborn require specialized treatment. Our childbirth team promotes skin-to-skin contact between birthing parents and baby as soon as possible, helping you bond and initiate feeding. You and your baby will “room in” together unless you need special medical care, and our nurses and lactation consultants are ready to assist and guide you through your birthing journey. During pregnancy and after your delivery, our Healthy Beginnings team is on hand for any classes, education or support you might need, including respiratory therapists, dieticians, developmental specialists and pediatricians.
